The Bedingfeld to Bordeaux Cycle Challenge

Team Marcus, Tom, Felix and Rowley are taking on a unique 9 day 700 mile challenge by cycling from the Bedingfeld Arms, Norfolk to the city of Bordeaux in France.

The challenge is being taken up in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK, a charity close to all four participants. The friends start near King’s Lynn on Friday 27th August from the Bedingfeld Arms in Oxborough, Norfolk, fully fuelled on one of the country pub’s famous breakfasts, before a 36 hour cycle across England to Portsmouth.

An overnight ferry to Ouistreham will give some much needed rest before the hard work begins again with an epic ride down western France taking in famous areas such as Saint-Malo, Nantes and Cognac before arrival in the historic city of Bordeaux on Saturday 4th September.

The four friends are very much looking forward to their adventure, and hope it becomes an annual event raising much needed money for such a worthwhile cause. Their journey can be followed online through the social media channels of Bedingfeld Arms and Felix and Marcus’ business, Fairfax and Favor. The just giving page will be running until the marathon journey is complete and the link can be found below. The team hope to raise £5,000 and are already a quarter of the way there with donations.

Felix Parker – “Unfortunately, I lost my uncle to cancer 2 years ago. He was incredibly fit and healthy and it came as a huge shock to our family. Cancer rips open families and I’m incredibly grateful for all your donations supporting our Bedingfeld to Bordeaux challenge for Cancer Research. Their mission is to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured and It’s a huge honour to raise money for this fantastic charity.”

Marcus Fountaine - “Almost everyone has either been directly or indirectly affected by cancer. It’s a horrible disease that can strike at any age and have truly devastating impact on families. My dad lost his battle with leukaemia 15 years ago, but even since then survival rates have improved dramatically thanks to the funds raised over the last two decades. We are very honoured to be raising money and awareness for this cause and any support you can give us will go directly to Cancer Resarch UK and help bring this brutal wrecker of lives & families to an end.

Rowley Barclay – “My grandparents sadly suffered from this terrible disease in varying forms. We all go through life not knowing what is around the corner and when cancer strikes it devastates lives and those of people around them. Cancer Research UK is a fantastic charity which everyone can relate to, and seeing positive results from the work that is carried out makes every penny worth it, for us today, and for future generations.”

Tom De Lotbiniere – “My Grandfather lived a very full life, but still suffered greatly in the end as a result of this disease. I hope that the ride will raise funds in order to help others who are suffering, and also inspire people to stay healthy and reduce the chances of getting it in the first place.”

Catkin and Stephen Parker (owners of Bedingfeld Arms): “We are thrilled to support the boys in making this epic journey for such a wonderful cause. We shall be following their journey here in the pub, encouraging our customers to donate, and shall certainly be raising a glass to them when they reach beautiful Bordeaux.”
